Subjunctive KoL: FamiliarList
|
This is a list of available familiars. This also has spoilers on how to get them. You have been warned!
Familiar levels are determined by a very simple progression: to attain level n, a familiar must accumulate n^2 kills. Thus, level 20 (the highest level any familiar can reach) requires 400 kills. Familiar levels are capped at 20 naturally, but skills and items can increase your familiar weight much further. See GetHeavierFamiliars for a detailed list.
Familiars are listed in alphabetical order. The name of the familiar is listed first; the name in parenthesis is the name of the larval form (the item that you use to get the familiar).
- Ancient Yuletide Troll (yuletide troll chrysalis)
- How to get: Buy a yuletide troll chrysalis at Mr. Store by trading in a Mr. Accessory (no longer available).
- What it does: Combines the properties of a volleyball and a weaker ghuol whelp. Also occasionally drops disintegrating sheet music, which you can use to cast various minor buffs on yourself or others.
- Note: The Ancient Yuletide Troll was the Familiar of the Month for December 2006. It is now no longer available.
- Angry Goat (goat)
- How to get: Obtain the goat cheese from The Goatlet. Then, obtain anticheese from the Dude Ranch Adventure at the shore. Then, combine.
- What it does: Attacks enemies.
- Comments: At low levels, neither hits very often or does much damage. At higher levels, does a decent amount of damage.
- Astral Badger (astral badger)
- How to get: Buy an astral badger at Mr. Store by trading in a Mr. Accessory (no longer available).
- What it does: Attacks like a MechaMech, and occasionally after combat drops an astral mushroom (up to 5 per day).
- Comments: The astral mushrooms drop less frqeuently as you get more of them. Their drop rate is not affected by weight, only the badger badge.
- Note: The Astral Badger was the Familiar of the Month for June 2006. It is now no longer available.
- Attention-Deficit Demon (calm attention-deficit demon)
- How to get: Buy a calm attention-deficit demon at Mr. Store by trading in 2 Mr. Accessories (no longer available).
- What it does: Combines the properties of a leprechaun and a gravy fairy.
- Comments: Exactly the same as a coffee pixie, which it replaces.
- Note: The Attention-Deficit Demon was retired on the 2nd anniversary of Mr. Store (10/6/06) and is now no longer available. It was replaced by the jitterbug, which has the same functionality.
- Baby Gravy Fairy (pregnant mushroom)
- How to get: Get a Knob Mushroom from the Cobb's Knob Kitchens and Fairy Gravy from the Haiku Dungeon. Cook them together.
- What it does: Causes enemies to drop items more often. More precisely, for each item that could potentially be dropped, it increases the probability that the enemy will drop it.
- Baby Yeti (orphan baby yeti)
- How to get: Buy an orphan baby yeti at Mr. Store by trading in a Mr. Accessory (no longer available).
- What it does: Combines the fighting ability of a starfish with the MP-restoring ability of a starfish.
- Comments: When it acts, the baby yeti will either do some damage to your opponent, or restore some of your MP, but not both at the same time, like a starfish does. It acts much more frequently than a starfish, but each action is less effective, so the overall effect is about the same.
- Note: The Baby Yeti was the Familiar of the Month for January 2005. It is now no longer available.
- Barrrnacle (barrrnacle)
- How to get: Adventure in the Obligatory Pirate's Cove.
- What it does: Slows enemies down.
- Comments: It's very successful in "slowing enemies down", but it's hard to tell just how much of an effect this actually is.
- Blood-Faced Volleyball (blood-faced volleyball)
- How to get: Obtain a volleyball from the Hermit. Then get a seal tooth (if you're not a Seal Clubber, you can fish around in the Sewer or search in the Spooky Forest). Use the seal tooth to get a Bloody Hand, then use it on the volleyball.
- What it does: Increases the amount of experience you get from enemies. To be precise, a 1-4 pound volleyball will give you 1 extra experience, a 5-8 pound volleyball will give you 2 extra experience, and so forth.
- Comments: The increase is a flat increase; it does not depend on the type of enemies being fought.
- Cheshire Bat (Cheshire Bitten)
- How to get: Buy a Cheshire Bitten at Mr. Store by trading in 2 Mr. Accessories (no longer available).
- What it does: Combines the properties of a volleyball and a leprechaun.
- Comments: Exactly the same as having both a volleyball and a leprechaun.
- Note: The Cheshire Bat was retired on the 1st anniversary of Mr. Store (10/6/05) and is now no longer available. It was replaced by the cymbal-playing monkey, which has the same functionality.
- Clockwork Grapefruit (unwound clockwork grapefruit)
- How to get: Use the Gnomish Supertinker to create a clockwork endoskeleton; see SupertinkerRecipes for details. Then cook the clockwork endoskeleton with a grapefruit to make an unwound clockwork grapefruit.
- What it does: Attacks during battle, in a very Clockwork Orange-like fashion.
- Cocoabo (cocoa egg)
- How to get: Cook two cocoa eggshell fragments (available from the Penultimate Fantasy Airship) to make a large cocoa eggshell fragment. Then, cook two large cocoa eggshell fragments to make a cocoa egg.
- What it does: Occasionally replenishes HP/MP, gives you Meat, attacks the enemy, or runs circles around the enemy, confusing them. Sometimes a Cocoabo will have a Limit Break, which increases its power for that turn. (Thanks to BullDurum for clarifying this.)
- Comments: While the Cocoabo does a lot of things, it doesn't seem to do any of them particularly well. The Meat now appears to be proportional to the amount of meat that an enemy normally drops, making it somewhat more useful.
- Coffee Pixie (coffee sprite)
- How to get: Buy a coffee sprite at Mr. Store by trading in 2 Mr. Accessories (no longer available).
- What it does: Combines the properties of a leprechaun and a gravy fairy.
- Note: The Coffee Pixie was retired on the 1st anniversary of Mr. Store (10/6/05) and is now no longer available. It was replaced by the attention-deficit demon, which has the same functionality.
- Comma Chameleon (Comma Chameleon egg)
- How to get: Buy a Comma Chameleon egg at Mr. Store by trading in a Mr. Accessory (August 2006 only!)
- What it does: When you feed a piece of familiar equipment to a Comma Chameleon, it becomes that familiar for 30 turns. It does nothing if not fed. The Comma Chameleon also earns familiar equipment every 5 turns at the Arena. Note that the Comma Chameleon can not be used in situations in the game where a specific familiar is called for (e.g. when fighting the GiantFamiliars).
- Note: The Comma Chameleon was the Familiar of the Month for August 2006. It is now no longer available.
- Crimbo Elf (crimbo elfling)
- How to get: Buy a crimbo elfling at Mr. Store by trading in a Mr. Accessory (no longer available).
- What it does: Combines the properties of a lime and a gravy fairy.
- Comments: Seems to attack less often than a lime, but slightly more powerfully. The item gain is about the same as for a baby gravy fairy.
- Note: The Crimbo Elf was the Familiar of the Month for December 2004. It is now no longer available.
- Cymbal-Playing Monkey (unwound cymbal-playing monkey)
- How to get: Buy an unwound cymbal-playing monkey at Mr. Store by trading in 2 Mr. Accessories (no longer available).
- What it does: Combines the properties of a volleyball and a leprechaun.
- Comments: Exactly the same as a Cheshire bat, which it replaces.
- Note: The Cymbal-Playing Monkey was retired on the 2nd anniversary of Mr. Store (10/6/06) and is now no longer available. It was replaced by the nervous tick, which has the same functionality.
- Dandy Lion (dandy lion cub)
- How to get: Buy a dandy lion cub at Mr. Store by trading in a Mr. Accessory (no longer available).
- What it does: Combines the properties of a gravy fairy and a ghuol whelp.

- Doppelshifter (doppelshifter egg)
- How to get: Buy a doppelshifter egg at Mr. Store by trading in a Mr. Accessory (no longer available).
- What it does: For each fight, it will function as a different random familiar. (Note that it can be any familiar in this list, not just familiars that you have.)
- Comments: Test results coming soon.
- Note: The Doppelshifter was the Familiar of the Month for October 2005. It is now no longer available.
- Emo Squid (emo roe)
- How to get: The emo roe was a special item which appeared at Mr. Store for the cost of a Mr. Accessory on April 1 only, as an April Fool's joke.
- What it does: Combines the properties of a barrrnacle and a potato.
- Comments: I don't have one, and, having missed my chance, am not likely to get one either.
- Evil Teddy Bear (evil teddy bear)
- How to get: Have Linnea combine 2 evil googly eyes, 4 spooky wads of stuffing, and 2 spooky squares of felt, obtainable from the Spooky Fright Factory. This can only be done during the SaveUncleCrimbo quest for Crimbo 2006.
- What it does: Attacks enemies while absorbing their attacks during battle, but at the cost of its own experience points.
- Feather Boa Constrictor (silk garter snake)
- How to get: Buy a silk garter snake at Mr. Store by trading in a Mr. Accessory (no longer available).
- What it does: Fights and gets Meat like a Cocoabo, entangles like a potato
- Comments: Probably more useful than a Cocoabo since it gives meat more often; the meat appears to be proportional to the normal amount of meat an enemy drops. The entangling is the same as a potato's.
- Note: The Feather Boa Constrictor was the Familiar of the Month for February 2005. It is now no longer available.
- Flaming Gravy Fairy (pregnant flaming mushroom)
- How to get: Ascend under a Muscle sign, and travel inside Degrassi Knoll. Visit Mayor Zapruder and complete his first quest. His second quest will be to grow a certain kind of mushroom from the mushroom fields inside Degrassi Knoll. Grow this mushroom (see MushroomFarming for help) and give it to the mayor. He will return to you a pregnant mushroom, which you can use to obtain a special gravy fairy.
- What it does: Finds items like a baby gravy fairy, but also attacks with fire damage.
- Comments: Each muscle sign Ascension, the Mayor will ask for a different kind of mushroom until you have all three special gravy fairies. The flaming gravy fairy's special familiar equipment cannot be obtained at the Arena; instead, the mayor gives it to you after your first three muscle sign Ascensions. Unlike most familiar larvae, the pregnant flaming mushroom is non-tradeable, so you will have to earn it yourself (although you can buy a flaming mushroom to skip the mushroom-growing process).
- Frozen Gravy Fairy (pregnant frozen mushroom)
- How to get: Ascend under a Muscle sign, and travel inside Degrassi Knoll. Visit Mayor Zapruder and complete his first quest. His second quest will be to grow a certain kind of mushroom from the mushroom fields inside Degrassi Knoll. Grow this mushroom (see MushroomFarming for help) and give it to the mayor. He will return to you a pregnant mushroom, which you can use to obtain a special gravy fairy.
- What it does: Finds items like a baby gravy fairy, but also attacks with cold damage.
- Comments: Each muscle sign Ascension, the Mayor will ask for a different kind of mushroom until you have all three special gravy fairies. The frozen gravy fairy's special familiar equipment cannot be obtained at the Arena; instead, the mayor gives it to you after your first three muscle sign Ascensions. Unlike most familiar larvae, the pregnant frozen mushroom is non-tradeable, so you will have to earn it yourself (although you can buy a frozen mushroom to skip the mushroom-growing process).
- Fuzzy Dice (fuzzy dice)
- How to get: Take 23 vacations, and these are your frequent traveler prize.
- What it does: All sorts of things. It rolls periodically, and based on the outcome, does something: attacks enemy, gives MP, nothing, or attacks you, for example. See FuzzyDiceEffects for a complete list.
- Comments: Even at the highest levels, it still rolls frustratingly infrequently. The level only seems to increase the amount of damage done (or whatever).
- Ghost Pickle on a Stick (ghost pickle on a stick)
- How to get: Obtain brine, vinegar, dill, and a ghost cucumber from the Spectral Pickle Factory. Cook them in that order to get a Spectral Pickle. Then, cook it with a skewer (from the Bugbear Bakery) to put it on a stick. (This recipe was disabled for a while, but is now available again. Hooray!)
- What it does: During battle, does quite a bit of damage to enemies. Also drops caustic juice on them, which (presumably) weakens them.
- Ghuol Whelp (fertilized ghuol egg)
- How to get: Get a ghuol egg from the Cemetary and some Spooky-Gro Fertilizer from the Spooky Forest. Combine.
- What it does: After a battle, provides you with HP and MP.
- Comments: Generally much more powerful than a mosquito, but does not help during the fight.
- Grue (grue egg)
- How to get: Use the strange leaflet and look behind the chest in the cave.
- What it does: Attacks enemies.
- Comments: The grue is more powerful in darkness (moons new). It's pretty powerful once it reaches the top levels when it's dark.
- Hand Turkey (hand turkey outline)
- How to get: Buy a hand turkey outline at Mr. Store by trading in a Mr. Accessory (no longer available).
- What it does: Combines the properties of a goat and a leprechaun.
- Comments: Attacks as powerfully as a goat, though slightly less often. The meat gain, in my tests, seems to be slightly less than for a leprechaun, but that might just be random chance.
- Note: The Hand Turkey was the Familiar of the Month for November 2004. It is now no longer available.
- Hanukkimbo dreidl (Hanukkimbo dreidl)
- How to get: There's a 1/3 chance that it showed up in your Crimbo pressie for Christmas 2004.
- What it does: When you're in a fight, it occasionally spins (more frequently than the dice), and comes up with one of the following four rolls:
- shin -- dreidl whacks your opponent in the shins, doing damage
- nun -- the monster doesn't attack you this turn
- gimmel -- the dreidl gives you a small amount of meat
- heh -- the dreidl restores some of your MP
- Hovering Sombrero (hovering sombrero)
- How to get: Obtain an irate sombrero from South of the Border. Continue adventuring until you obtain the "Finger-Lickin'... Death" adventure. Bet on the second chicken (the underdog), and if you're lucky, you'll get a poultrygeist. Combine the poultrygeist and the irate sombrero to get a hovering sombrero.
- What it does: At the end of combat, smiles at you, like a volleyball, and increases your experience gained, also like a volleyball.
- Comments: Unlike a volleyball, the stat gains are not flat, but are proportional to the gains you get from the monster. Thus the sombrero is more effective than the volleyball when fighting against the toughest enemies (and, conversely, less effective when fighting against weaker enemies).
- Howling Balloon Monkey (balloon monkey)
- How to get: Combine long skinny balloons until you get a monkey. (First you combine two to get a helmet; combine that with another balloon to get a sword, and then another to get a monkey.)
- What it does: rubs its arms or legs together. I don't know if this has an effect on the enemy. After it reaches level 10, it reaches out and shocks your opponent, reducing its HP, or it shocks you, giving you MP.
- Comments: Somewhat more powerful than the lime or goat, once it reaches level 10, but still not hugely powerful.
- Inflatable Dodecapede (deflated inflatable dodecapede)
- How to get: Buy a deflated inflatable dodecapede at Mr. Store by trading in a Mr. Accessory (no longer available).
- What it does: Attacks during combat, but becomes less powerful as it gains weight.
- Comments: Test results coming soon.
- Note: The Inflatable Dodecapede was the Familiar of the Month for June 2005. It is now no longer available.
- Jill-O-Lantern (Dark Jill-O-Lantern)
- How to get: Buy a Dark Jill-O-Lantern at Mr. Store by trading in a Mr. Accessory (no longer available).
- What it does: Combines the properties of a lime and a volleyball.
- Comments: As far as XP gain goes, it's the same as a volleyball. Its attacks are as powerful as a lime's attacks, but they seem to happen much less frequently.
- Note: The Jill-O-Lantern was the Familiar of the Month for October 2004. It is now no longer available.
- Jitterbug (jitterbug larva)
- How to get: Buy a jitterbug larva at Mr. Store by trading in 2 Mr. Accessories.
- What it does: Combines the properties of a leprechaun and a gravy fairy.
- Comments: Exactly the same as a coffee pixie and attention-deficit demon, which it replaces.
- Killer Bee (baby killer bee)
- How to get: Get a baby killer bee by adventuring in the Dungeon of Doom (it's occasionally dropped by swarms of killer bees), and stick it in the terrarium.
- What it does: During battle, attacks enemies. Also, at the end of battle, will occasionally inject you with royal jelly, which does 1 HP damage to you but increases the amount of muscle gained (by about 1-8 points). (Thanks to JLE for a correction here.)
- Comments: The gain in XP is slightly less than the gain for a volleyball (also, you don't always get it).
- Leprechaun (leprechaun hatchling)
- How to get: Adventure in the Spooky Forest with a ten-leaf clover. You will receive a bowl of Lucky Charms. Eat the Lucky Charms and you will sometimes (not always) get a leprechaun hatchling.
- What it does: Increases the amount of meat you gain from monsters.
- Comments: The most popular familiar for high-level players, allegedly only because it was the first familiar in the game.
- Levitating Potato (potato sprout)
- How to get: Adventure in the Daily Dungeon. It's in the treasure chests.
- What it does: Occasionally wraps your enemies in vines, preventing them from attacking.
- MagiMechTech MicroMechaMech (deactivated MicroMechaMech)
- How to get: Use the Gnomish Supertinker to create a deactivated MicroMechaMech; see SupertinkerRecipes for details. Then use it (it'll give you -3 HP when you do).
- What it does: Attacks during battle, using a variety of high-tech attacks.
- Mosquito (mosquito larva)
- How to get: Adventure in the Spooky Forest until you find a mosquito larva.
- What it does: Occasionally sucks HP from your opponent and gives the HP to you.
- Comments: A good starter familiar, but just not as powerful as some of the familiars available later.
- Nervous Tick (nervous tick egg)
- How to get: Buy a nervous tick egg at Mr. Store by trading in 2 Mr. Accessories.
- What it does: Combines the properties of a volleyball and a leprechaun.
- Comments: Exactly the same as a Cheshire bat and cymbal-playing monkey, which it replaces.
- Ninja Pirate Zombie Robot (ninja pirate zombie robot)
- How to get: First, construct a ninja pirate zombie robot head by combining, in order, a clockwork sphere, enchanted eyepatch, zombie pineal gland, glowing red eye, and cold ninja mask. Then, use the head with the following items in your inventory: blundarrrbus, cheap toaster, chest of the Bonerdagon, clockwork claws, clockwork sheet, clockwork spine, disembodied brain, frigid ninja stars, icy-hot katana, pine tar, skeleton bone, spiked femur, star throwing star, and teeny-tiny ninja stars. (If you have extra of any of the ingredients, they may get used up in the assembly process, but you only need 1 of each for the process to succeed.)
- What it does: During combat, it takes one of the following actions:
- Heals your HP/MP (the amount recovered is about twice the current weight)
- Attacks your opponent (the amount of damage is about one and a half times the current weight)
- Steals meat from your opponent (the amount of meat is about 6-7 times the current weight)
- Bites your opponent, weakening him
- Fires a piece of toast at your opponent, stunning him (you also get the toast)
- Ninja Snowflake (frigid mote)
- How to get: Obtain a frigid mote by pickpocketing a Ninja Snowman Weaponmaster. This can only be obtained by the Disco Bandit/Accordion Thief pickpocket ability, not through a normal item drop.
- What it does: Attacks enemies in combat, doing cold damage.
- Origami Towel Crane (makeshift crane)
- How to get: Adventure in the Haunted Bathroom until you get a towel (note that you can only get one towel per ascension), then fold it into a makeshift crane.
- What it does: Occasionally entangles your opponent and prevents it from attacking, or absorbs damage from an opponent's attack.
- Penguin Goodfella (bad penguin egg)
- How to get: Buy a bad penguin egg at Mr. Store by trading in a Mr. Accessory (no longer available).
- What it does: Increases stats like a volleyball. Also occasionally kneecaps your opponent, weakening it like a barrrnacle (this effect does not always happen, however). Also occasionally drops Goodfella contracts, which can be used in later combats to do damage to your enemy at the cost of some Meat.
- Note: The Penguin Goodfella was the Familiar of the Month for April 2007. It is now no longer available.
- Personal Raincloud (personal raindrop)
- How to get: Buy a personal raindrop at Mr. Store by trading in a Mr. Accessory (no longer available).
- What it does: Like a driedl or a cocoabo, different things at different times. The full list of effects is as follows:
- During combat:
- Strikes enemy with a lightning bolt, doing damage
- Strikes you with a lightning bolt, giving you MP
- Pours a spring rain on you, giving you HP
- Rains on your enemy's parade, "disappointing" it
- After combat:
- Pours acidic rain, giving you HP
- Has a golden lining, giving you MP
- Purple rain, giving +2-3 Muscle
- Hippy rain, giving +2-3 Mysticality
- You dance in the rain, giving +2-3 Moxie
- Comments: At highest levels, it does something a very high percentage of the time (much more frequently than the dice, and probably more frequently than a cocoabo too), and what it does is pretty useful.
- Note: The Personal Raincloud was the Familiar of the Month for April 2005. It is now no longer available.
- Pet Rock (pet rock)
- How to get: Have Uncle Crimbo combine 1 eye and 1 block, obtainable from the Crimbo Town Toy Factory. This can only be done when CrimboTown is in existence. During Crimbo 2006, you could also make them by having Linnea combine 1 evil googly eye and 1 spooky wooden block, obtainable from the Spooky Fright Factory.
- What it does: Absolutely nothing. It can't even compete in the Arena. However, it has not one, but two special pieces of familiar equipment, both of which are obtained from the Summon Hilarious Objects skill. The pet rock "Snooty" disguise causes its monocle will fly off in surprise when you get a critical hit, while the pet rock "Groucho" disguise causes it to waggle its eyebrows at you when you fumble.
- Pygmy Bugbear Shaman (pygmy bugbear shaman)
- How to get: Buy a pygmy bugbear shaman at Mr. Store by trading in a Mr. Accessory (no longer available).
- What it does: Combines the properties of a volleyball and a baby gravy fairy, but requires your MP to do so.
- Note: The Pygmy Bugbear Shaman was the Familiar of the Month for August 2005. It is now no longer available.
- Sabre-Toothed Lime (sabre-toothed lime cub)

- How to get: Get a grouchy restless spirit from the Haunted Bedroom. Get a clockwork sphere via supertinkering (see SupertinkerRecipes for details). Then combine the two.
- What it does: Like a stab bat, it attacks enemies and occasionally attacks you. Unlike a stab bat, it does spooky damage.
- Comments: Much like the stab bat, it is extremely inaccurate but does do a lot of damage at higher levels. Unfortunately, that damage may be to you.
- Sleazy Gravy Fairy (pregnant oily golden mushroom)
- How to get: Ascend under a Muscle sign, and buy a mushroom plot inside Degrassi Knoll. Using this plot, grow a gloomy black mushroom (see MushroomFarming for directions). Trade the gloomy black mushroom to the Suspicious-Looking Guy to get an oily golden mushroom. Prepare some sleazy fairy gravy by cooking pr0n legs and fairy gravy together. Cook the oily golden mushroom with the sleazy fairy gravy to obtain a pregnant oily golden mushroom. Use it to get the Sleazy Gravy Fairy.
- What it does: Finds items like a baby gravy fairy, but also attacks with sleaze damage.
- Comments: Like the other elemental gravy fairies, the sleazy gravy fairy's special familiar equipment cannot be obtained at the Arena. You can get it by adventuring in the Sleazy Back Alley with your sleazy gravy fairy equipped.
- Spirit Hobo (homeless hobo spirit)
- How to get: Buy a homeless hobo spirit at Mr. Store by trading in a Mr. Accessory (no longer available).
- What it does: Gives the stat increases from a volleyball. It will also act as a starfish when given booze. You can feed it booze from your inventory, which lasts for a cetain amount of time (better boozes last for longer).
- Note: The Spirit Hobo was the Familiar of the Month for May 2006. It is now no longer available.
- Snowy Owl (sleeping snowy owl)
- How to get: Make a yo-yo by having Uncle Crimbo combine 1 string and 1 wheel, obtainable from the Crimbo Town Toy Factory. This can only be done when CrimboTown is in existence. Then, zap the yo-yo with a wand; see WandEffects for details.
- What it does: Attacks enemies.
- Spooky Gravy Fairy (pregnant gloomy black mushroom)
- How to get: Ascend under a Muscle sign, and buy a mushroom plot inside Degrassi Knoll. Using this plot, grow a gloomy black mushroom (see MushroomFarming for directions). Cook this gloomy black mushroom with spooky fairy gravy, obtainable from the Spooky Gravy Barrow, to obtain a pregnant gloomy black mushroom. Use it to get the Spooky Gravy Fairy.
- What it does: Finds items like a baby gravy fairy, but also attacks with spooky damage.
- Comments: Like the other elemental gravy fairies, the spooky gravy fairy's special familiar equipment cannot be obtained at the Arena. It can only be obtained by beating Felonia with the spooky gravy fairy at your side.
- Spooky Pirate Skeleton (spooky pirate skeleton)
- How to get: Get a smart skull (Misspelled Cemetary) and a disembodied brain (Fernswarthy's Tower). Combine to make a brainy skull. Add an eyepatch (Obligatory Pirate's Cove) to make a pirate skull. Then, use the skull when you have a pirate pelvis, a sunken chest, and 8 skeleton bones (all findable in the Cove; skeleton bones can also be found in the Cemetary).
- What it does: Attacks enemies. Occasionally spooks them out, which reduces their power.

- Star Starfish (star starfish)
- How to get: Using a star chart, combine 6 stars and 4 lines (all obtainable from the Hole in the Sky).
- What it does: During battle, does damage to your enemy, which is transferred into MP gain for you.

- What it does: Finds items like a baby gravy fairy, but also attacks with stench damage.
- Comments: Each muscle sign Ascension, the Mayor will ask for a different kind of mushroom until you have all three special gravy fairies. The stinky gravy fairy's special familiar equipment cannot be obtained at the Arena; instead, the mayor gives it to you after your first three muscle sign Ascensions. Unlike most familiar larvae, the pregnant stinky mushroom is non-tradeable, so you will have to earn it yourself (although you can buy a stinky mushroom to skip the mushroom-growing process).
- Sweet Nutcracker (sweet nutcracker)
- How to get: Buy a sweet nutcracker at Mr. Store by trading in a Mr. Accessory (no longer available).
- What it does: Attacks like a pickle. (Note that this means it only attacks. It doesn't have a weakening ability like the pickles do.) Before combat, it will occasionally buff you with a benefical buff. Here's the list:
- Aspect of the GravyPlum Fairy: presumably improves the item drops from monsters
- Arabian Knighthood: +5% muscle
- Oriental Mysticism: +5% mysticality
- Reedy Pipes: +5% moxie
- Rushin' Hands: +3 melee damage
The length of the buff is equal to the level of the nutcracker divided by 3 (rounded up).
- Note: The Sweet Nutcracker was the Familiar of the Month for December 2005. It is now no longer available.
- Teddy Bear (teddy bear)
- How to get: Have Uncle Crimbo combine 2 eyes, 4 stuffing, and 2 felt, obtainable from the Crimbo Town Toy Factory. This can only be done when CrimboTown is in existence.

- Temporal Riftlet (miniscule temporal rift)
- How to get: Buy a miniscule temporal rift at Mr. Store by trading in a Mr. Accessory (no longer available).

- Toothsome Rock (toothsome rock)
- How to get: Have Ugh Crimbo combine 1 tooth and 1 rock, obtainable from the Simple Tool-Making Cave. This can only be done during the SaveUncleCrimbo quest for Crimbo 2006.
- What it does: Like the pet rock, absolutely nothing, not even compete in the Arena. It can equip both of the pieces of familiar equipment for the pet rock, the pet rock "Snooty" disguise and the pet rock "Groucho" disguise. The "Snooty" disguise has no effect (unlike its effect for the pet rock), while the "Groucho" disguise has the same effect as for the pet rock -- it will waggle its eyebrows at you when you fumble.
- Whirling Maple Leaf (maple leaf)
- How to get: Adventure in Camp Logging Camp (in Little Canadia; requires ascending under a Mysticality sign) until you get two leaflets. Combine the two leaflets to get a leaf. Combine the leaf with some maple syrup to get a maple leaf.
- What it does: During battle, slices your opponent for damage; after battle, restores some MP.
- Comments: The MP restoration is useful at low levels, but against higher level opponents it seems to happen less often. The damage is pretty low at low levels, but it does hit a lot, so it's pretty useful too.
